I had heard all about the ‘4th trimester’ prior to having Sam but I didn’t fully understand that that literally meant I would be holding Sam all day! Luckily I had registered for several wraps and carriers that would allow me to wear him and still get things done around the house. Some of the wraps and carriers Sam has loved and others not so much…so here is our experience.
The first one we used was The Solly Wrap. For the first 8 weeks of Sam’s life he lived in his solly wrap. It is super soft, stretchy, and so comfortable for Sam. He would curl back up in his little tree frog position and just pass out. However, since it is a wrap and not a carrier there is no lumbar support and as Sam has gotten heavier it has put more strain on my back. I will say I still love it for around the house but not for long walks out with the dogs. For any new mom looking for a soft, breathable wrap for their new baby I would most definitely recommend this one. David even loves it!
The second one we tried was the Ergo 360 Cool Air. The Ergo 360 requires an infant insert for babies ranging from 7 to 12 pounds or newborns to 4-5 months. Sam hated the infant insert! It is hot and was awkward for his legs. I also felt like I couldn’t really tell if he was in a good breathing position. I wouldn’t recommend the Ergo 360 for an infant but once out of the infant insert I would definitely recommend it. David is super excited to use this one for long walks and hikes since it has great back support and is extremely breathable.
Since the Ergo 360 wasn’t working for us and I needed something with more support than the Solly Wrap I decided to try out the LILLEbaby Complete Luxe. I had heard great things about the LILLEbaby and the Tula but the Tula also required an infant insert where the LILLEbaby did not so I decided to go with the LILLEbaby and I am in love! As soon as I put Sam in the LILLEbaby he is completely happy and literally falls asleep within minutes. It is also very breathable and has amazing lumbar support. Overall this is my favorite since I know it will grow with him. We will be taking this with us when we travel cross country so I will let you know how it works for us in the airport!
I know there are lots of carriers out there but for us the Solly Baby Wrap was amazing when he was a newborn and the LILLEbaby has been great for longer walks and providing more support!
