I am dubbing this “series” the Before Home Tour. When we moved into Sterling Drive, all of the befores were still beautiful- and I couldn’t wait to share. Well, the befores here aren’t quite as beautiful, but that just makes for better afters… right? I showed you all a little of the house when we first bought it, but wanted you to see the space with furniture in it- way easier! Plus it is fun to see what I think I will do with a space, compared to what actually happens!
So without further ado, the foyer & the living room!
Oh and did I mention these are real life photos? I did vacuum and pick up, but as soon as I throw a toy into the toy bin… the dogs get them out again- gah!
This is the view when you walk into the house. If I was a better photographer, you would see the beautiful water as soon as you walk in. To the right are the stairs, then a small hallway with a half bath and a closet under the stairs, finally leading into the kitchen.
To do in the foyer:
-New front door (the current one doesn’t have any weatherstripping on the bottom)
-Some sort of furniture where the bench is- most likely with the gallery wall over it
If you keep walking, you get to the living room.
Meet Ginger- she is NOT ours- two is enough! We were dog sitting for a few days : )
The stains on the ceiling are from a previous roof leak. Obviously we need to paint!
As you can see this leads into the dining room. On the right there is another little area. This room’s floor plan has me very stumped.
What is the focal point? The water? The fireplace? The tv? The problem with the fireplace is it is in the middle of the room- across from it is an opening. I don’t know just yet… but for now I know I need to finish the wall, get a different rug, and probably a different couch- the big guy impedes the flow.
You can see what I mean about the fireplace in this shot. My plan right now is a smaller couch up against the wall, and then a swivel chair that can face the fireplace, tv, couch or dining room. It is also hard to know what to do with the rugs. I need help!
Other things to do in the room:
-Paint paneling (point of contention)
-Figure out floor plan
-New fan- this guy puts out a ton of air, but not very pretty
-Improve light situation? There are very few overhead lights in the space. I would love to do recessed but with the high ceilings, it will be hard
-Beef up the bookcase & remove shelf from over doors- I want them to look more built in
-And of course, art, styling, etc
Ok, there you have it. What would YOU do with the space! Tell me everything!
