Welcome to the final room in our Sterling Home Tour- eek! All the rest can be found here.
This basement bathroom was truly a labor of love. For one, the bathroom is HUGE. For another, I had only just started working on it when we decided to sell the house. And then I had the bright idea to tell the realtor that she could tell buyers it would be finished before closing. Oh my goodness- so. much. work while also trying to pack up a house. Without my dad… I would probably still be working on it! I wont say we had a ton of fun doing all this work in two weekend, but we had a good time : )
The listing when we bought the house said it was 90% finished. Um, no. It was basically roughed in…
In the beginning, Dan was tired of grey paint so he agreed to paint it this teal color. Woah. Really bad plan… I think it looked better in person, but it was still not great.
But I still forged ahead- tiling the floor (and making a huge mistake in the process. Never decide it is best to let the grout sit over night. Never. Nightmare.) & also painting some mirrors from the master bedroom.
Next our awesome plumber installed the vanity.
Then it was onto picking finishes! At first I wanted some great graphic tile (seen above)- but when we were certain we were moving I decided on a little bit more neutral tile. All of the tile for the shower and surround were from Floor & Decor- I love the penny tile- it might have to make another appearance in our new house!
Next it was time to finish the tub surround with board and batten & start on the shower. Oh that shower- it was so big- I couldn’t touch either side while standing in the middle- meaning it was over 5 feet wide. And tall. And had a huge bench. I chose really big tile to make it go a little faster, but it was still slow going.
We finally finished the tiling though!
And finally could add our hardware. Oof was that a pain- one of them leaked and we had to replace a pin and goodness it took forever, but finally it was done!
I really regret not having better pictures of this space (these are the best I have!)- when the photographer was there for the listing the bathroom wasn’t done (we probably finished a day before closing!), so I only have my pictures- there is no natural light and only a light source on one side of the room, so I didn’t do such a great job. But in person, it turned out awesome. I was so proud of all of our hard work. And then we moved.
So that is it! All of the rooms of our Sterling House!
