Welcome back to the home tour : ) All of the other rooms can be found here! I have to admit that I never thought I would enjoy gardening. My dad is amazing- our yards are always immaculate, but I just didn’t get it. Once I actually planted something of my own though- I did! It was so fun to walk around each day and see how things were growing! I am proud of the little things I did- I would definitely not say that I am an expert, but I am excited to do it again!
Our little backyard was just that- little. But we definitely tried to take advantage of it with our giant deck! I still can’t believe how good it turned out looking- and still thank my aunt and cousin for helping us put up the railing!
But let’s start from the beginning, shall we? First we removed a pond from the backyard. (This story ended in a slight tragedy…). Then we cleared out the side yard… the weeds were taller than I was! We also added a hose pot to the front yard. This little thing made putting the hose away so much easier- and even looked cute!
In the backyard we started with lots of dreams & finally we built a deck.
Adding the Wam Bam fence railing was the icing on the cake- it made the whole thing tie in with the deck upstairs and look official! Plus the back wall blocked out the view we had of an apartment building! We then stained it– and I will say I loved the dark look, but the dogs got muddy paw prints on it all.the.time. I guess just like dark wood floors- harder to clean!
On the gardening front I planted hydrangeas and peonies. I was SO excited to have my own peonies (even if my parents had 400 more). The hydrangeas were much more finicky- the need for shade was tricky to figure out! But eventually I had one whole bloom- success!
I even planted potted plants on our front stoop. And they grew! And I remembered to water them! I can’t wait to have a garden again! The biggest thing I learned- mulch– everything looks so much better!
