I don’t know if I believe that everything happens for a reason (my mother hates this saying) or that what’s meant to be will find a way, but I do believe that our house hunting adventure turned out just the way that it was supposed to.
But let me back up- my first house hunting post was about things we wanted and renovation vs. buying an updated home. Once we started looking at homes, I discovered what I thought that I would- the homes that were updated were lovely, but they werent my style- and I wasn’t going to rip out a perfectly nice & new kitchen because I didn’t like it. But I wasn’t going to buy it either- ha.
So we started looking more for fixer uppers- & found a beautiful foreclosure on a big lot that we really liked. It definitely needed a lot of work (Im talking tons of new floors, new kitchen, new paint, new light fixtures, new layout- basically all new everything), but we were excited about that. But it was a foreclosure. And at the top of our budget. And it was huge. And did I mention that it needed a lot of work? We werent sure how much of the fixin’ we would be able to get done, even within the first year, at the price. And then Dan’s start date got pushed back at his new job, so we decided to wait. And, of course, someone else bought it. Rats.
So we looked at other houses. They were weird. Or in the wrong location. Or right beside a really busy highway. Or selling within a week. It had only been a few weeks, and we werent in a huge hurry, so we just kept looking.
And then, during one of my many searches, something crazy happened. There was a house that had been on the market right before we got serious about looking (remember, I still stalked MLS before, so I had seen it) that I loved. It was updated and beautiful and I even liked the light fixtures!! (The joke with our realtor had been that I always hated the light fixtures.) I stalked the pictures for inspiration for the house we would buy. I seriously stared at the pictures like once a week. Pathetic, I know. The sale had been pending forever. And on a fateful Friday, it no longer said sale pending. I freaked out & checked every website I could to see if it was really back on the market. It was. I then proceeded to e-mail, text, & call my poor realtor 1 million times. I told him if I liked the real thing even half as much as the pictures, I wanted it. Now!!!
On Saturday, we finally got to go in it. I was so nervous. We walked around, taking in all in, & I loved it. And Dan loved it. We loved the floors. And the light fixtures. And the paint colors. I could see decorating it & having holidays there. I could see our way-in-the-future kids running around. I wanted it. So we put in an offer & haven’t looked back. We are still in the whole home-buying process, but if all goes well, by the end of next month she will be ours.
